ICORIA 2015

A note from the conference chair

I am delighted that ICORIA 2015 is coming for the first time in its 14-year history to London – one of the most exciting and diverse cities in Europe and the entire world!

ICORIA 2015 will be hosted at Birkbeck, University of London. Our campus in central London is in the area of Bloomsbury, which is known for its connection to literature, culture, art and education. Clore Management Centre, the building where the main conference proceedings will take place is literally less than 5 minutes' walk from the British Museum (which admittedly has one of the greatest and most impressive collections in the world).

This year's conference theme 'Bridging the Gap' embraces the idea for closer collaboration between advertising academia and practice. To this end all presenters at the conference will be encouraged to also highlight the practical implications of their research.

The main conference will be preceded by a doctoral colloquium on 2nd July. The colloquium aims to help PhD students develop the professional skills required for their academic career. The colloquium will allow research students to learn from the insights and experiences of senior scholars including the Editors of the leading academic advertising journals. This will be followed by a drinks reception late in the afternoon to welcome all conference delegates.

Our keynote speaker has impressive credentials. Rory Sutherland is Vice Chairman of Ogilvy Group UK, former president of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) and an acclaimed TED speaker with international reputation for his work and ideas about advertising.

Also the delegates will have the pleasure to enjoy a great British menu in one of the most historic hotels in London (no, it won't be fish and chips!) and get the chance to meet a bronze dragon (whom we happen to share the same name). Why is 'Lucky George' so special? He has an identical twin, who now sits 2.5 miles beneath sea level in the Atlantic Ocean aboard the remains of the Titanic.

The conference proceeds on 4th July will conclude with an open bus tour of London. So please remember to bring your sun cream and umbrellas and see you in London on July 2nd 2015!

For regular announcements and news updates please follow us on social media.
